Christmas is such a strange time. It's the time of awareness, the time of wishing for world peace and the time for new intentions (quit smoking, be much nicer blablabla). It's the moment the day will lenght and the night will shorten (our ancestors celebrated this moment as the birth of a new year: Yule fest). We're singing happy songs, thinking about the poor and homeless etc. etc. But do we?
Christmas has become a festival of the rich and the companies. Santa Claus (decendend of the Dutch Sinterklaas) is created by Coca Cola, Hollywood releases every year a christmas movie, popsingers releases christmas-albums, people are literally fighting for the best and most expensive present. On top of this all, people are having a christmas diner. This has to be the most exclusive meal of the year, so people are buying food they usually don't eat, or have never heard of before.
The main ingredient of those exclusive meals is meat. But not the usual meat, oh no!
Chicken (oke, that's a comment kind of meat), turkey, calf and rabbit are the most eaten kind of meat in Holland during Christmas. But also wild bore, deer, hare, ostrich(!) and other wild birds, exlusive kinds of fish, kaviar, oisters, lobsters and shrimps are popular. Strangely enough, this wild isn't that wild. Most of the animal are coming from bio-industry.

Why are we celebrating world peace and awarness (as if the people in Guantanamo bay, Iraq, Palestine, Atjeh, Pakistan, Kurdistan, Woomera and so on, and so on will notice that), but in the same ideology do we kill thousands and thousands of animals? And I now, I am guilty also and I am not defending myself for that.
Where christmas was awarness, there is now hypocrisy. Where christmas was 'world peace' there is now profit.
